11/11/2024 Park Fell/Ingleborough
The weather continues very dry and calm, but this is the first day when we have seen full sun as the persistent low cloud had finally cleared away to leave a different, cleaner airmass.
It was very calm and windless in Ingleton so I was surprised to arrive at Ribblehead to find it on the windy side. It was flyable, but the gusts put me off and I retreated for about 30 minutes and had a think. That 30 minutes seemed to make all the difference and warranted a walk up to Park. As usual I laid out on the lower slopes in barely enough wind and slightly off to the W. Anyway, took off and climbed easily as Andy appeared overhead.
There was lots of very smooth lift which I took south to Ingleborough - very easy flying and plenty of height. I passed a glider setting up over the bowl and joined Andy and Marek over the summit. Heading bcak north was quite easy, but it was apparent there was a northerly of about 12mph which made it slow going,
Back at Park I was thinking of heading back south, but the wind seemed to have increased and it didn't feel quite the same. I set off then remembered child minding duties and opted to land. Brief chat with Geoff and back home. Only thing of note - a new footpath gate (see photo below) has replace the stile which had the 'big' step up.

A cold, but sunny day. Once I was ready for take off, the walk up and some bright sunshine made it feel quite pleasant. A generally light wind with odd sustained gusts to 12 - 14 mph meant it was soarable/scratchy. With a few hundred feet I was easily able to drop onto the back scar and use the full length. After a while it seemed to get lighter and less easy to stay up so back to the front edge. More scratching and I decided to land whilst the shoulder was still attainable. Later it clouded over.
Met Liam and we spent an hour in the Pemmy Garth cafe. Liam had lots of cake!
